The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECMLPKDD 2013) took place in Prague from September 23th to 27th, 2013. This event is the premier European machine learning and data mining conference and builds upon a very successful series of 23 ECML and 16 PKDD conferences, which have been jointly organized for the past 12 years.
ECMLPKDD 2013 implemented a new publication model with two main tracks; the proceedings track, which was organized in the traditional way, and the journal track, which was new.
The conference featured an exciting program consisting of 5 plenary keynote talks of invited speakers, 14 papers accepted in the journal track (out of 182 submissions), 124 papers accepted in the proceedings track (out of 447 submissions), an industrial track with 4 invited speakers, a demo track, a nectar track, 12 workshops, 8 tutorials, and a discovery challenge. A number of prizes were awarded, including the new Open Science Award.
